Sharing Presentations on the Web

When I read questions like this, I’m tempted to feel a certain
weariness. Maybe, I’ve been around too long <wink>. After all, when you
know the answers to questions others are asking…you feel great! I had
a lot of fun responding to this question, especially because others had
already done most of the work in finding the answers.

Recently, Yu-mei asked via an email listserv:

Could we insert a powerpoint presentation on a wiki site? Does anybody
know how to do it?

The answer is, YES. But which wiki? I followed up with this query:

You can insert a Powerpoint presentation into a wiki site. The easiest
way is to use Slideshare.net and use the embed code. Depending on the
wiki you use, you should be able to insert it. What wiki are you using?

To which Yu-mei replied…

Thanks very much for your quick reply. I am using wikispaces.
What is slideshare.net? Is it software? Where could I find it? Please
advise.

Embedding stuff in Wikispaces. Yu-mei’s question made me ask, "When WAS
the first time I learned how to do this?" Do you ever ask that question
when responding to others? I did advise…

You can definitely embed presentations into Wikispaces. Slideshare.net
can be found at http://slideshare.net

An
example of an embedded slide show is online at: http://mguhlin.wikispaces.com/
(scroll down to see it) When you EDIT your page in Wikispaces, notice
the little blue TV. Click on that TV to embed a widget. Choose the HTML
widget, and paste in the embed code from Slideshare.net.

A
tutorial/presentation on how to do this is online at http://tinyurl.com/5qfmhr

What’s amazing is that the tutorial was created by another educator,
Dianne Krause (read her blog
and her wiki). It’s
amazing how each of us can create tools and resources, share them online
with each other and use them with others. I’m grateful to everyone
online who makes the effort to share more of what they know, not
necessarily for financial gain but to help others learn and explore.

A quick side-note, I wondered what other tools might be out there
besides Slideshare.net. It’s been awhile since I took a look. Obviously, Slideshare.net,
Google Docs and ZohoShow
are out there…here are a few others you can use (some add a little
spin to presentation sharing and include video, as well as other
documents).
